Hello there!
Apologies for all the Hamlet references… Once I finally decided upon a name for this blog and began these initial edits, too many lines seemed relevant.
I had been considering blogging for a while, but, if you’re like me, you question every word you use, replay everything said, to make sure that no possible interpretation has been missed, just in case you might offend – and then you think well, actually, everything will offend someone, but of course, that’s not a reason to not care about causing offence…
And then you end up deciding not to do anything, as it’s safer.
But, here I am anyway. I’m taking the plunge. I will write.
Some of what I write will be true and some of it won’t. And some of that will be intentional and some of that will be accidental. Some of it, I will believe in, and some of it, I won’t. And I’m not sure that even I will know which is which.
So, basically, I’m just setting expectations. If you do continue to read any of this, please do so in the knowledge that my intention will never be to offend anyone, ever, but I will write things that you may not like or agree with, and some of that will be because I believe in it, and some of it will be thought-experiments, designed to challenge myself.
And doing this here, in the open, instead of hiding away inside my laptop (assuming that we aren’t all being watched anyway) means that I’ll be challenging myself, more than anyone.
That’s the idea, anyway. Let’s see what happens.
(And having read that back, it sounds like I’m going to launch a manifesto, whereas I’m probably just going to write about cats on the internet, or parenting – both of which are fairly controversial, I suppose.)
